Agentic AI
What "agentic" actually means for a maintenance team
Everyone in maintenance has heard the pitch by now: "AI will handle your work orders." Usually it's a dashboard that flags a few anomalies and calls it intelligence. Then the dashboard gets ignored, and the pilot quietly dies.
Here's the problem: dashboards don't do anything. They describe. An agentic system does — it plans, reads, drafts, and acts, with a human approving each step.
From dashboard to doer
A conventional AI tool sits in a corner and waits for someone to look at it. An agent takes a task and sees it through:
- Plans — given a job, it breaks it into steps and decides what's needed.
- Reads — it pulls from photos, forms, history, and manuals to understand context.
- Drafts — it prepares the work order, the job card, the priority call.
- Acts — it hands off to the right person or system, at the right time.
The difference matters on a maintenance deck. Crews don't have time to "query the dashboard." They have five seconds between tasks. An agent that turns a photo into a structured job card — automatically — saves those five seconds, every single time.
Why the human stays in the loop
Autonomy without approval is how mistakes get baked in at scale. So in our systems, every AI output is reviewed and owned by a person. The agent drafts, the human decides. Corrections feed back and the agent learns — which is how trust compounds instead of eroding.
What to look for in a vendor
When someone offers you "agentic AI," ask three questions:
- What does the agent actually do end-to-end? Not what it describes — what it completes.
- Who approves the outputs? If there's no human step, run.
- Does it work on your data, in your field conditions? Demo data from a clean office tells you nothing about a plant floor with patchy connectivity.
"Agentic AI is real — but it only earns the word when it does the work, and lets your people do the judgment."
Agentic AI is real — but it only earns the word when it does the work, and lets your people do the judgment. That's the standard we build to: agents with guardrails, humans in control.
